A recent study reveals that the earliest symptoms of type 2 diabetes can be identified 20 years before the diagnosis. The researches revealed that signs such as increased body mass index (BMI), reduced insulin sensitivity and heightening fasting glucose are symptoms that can be detected 10 years before the patient is diagnosed, and it has been termed as the pre-diabetes stage.
The study collected data from 15,778 participants who had normal blood glucose levels, and the results revealed that 4,781 suffered from pre-diabetes while 1,067 new cases of type 2 diabetes were identified.
The research highlighted that around 425 million adults aged 20-79 were suffering from diabetes in 2017, and in 2045, this figure is expected to increase to 629 million.
